New Year’s resolutions scare me, because some of us use that as a crutch to delay change. I have a message for you, my wonderful friends. We wait for another year and prolong the things that we can do today. Please don’t wait for the calendar year to change before you decide to chase the desires of your heart.
If your resolution is to make a change, start small. Every little step you take brings you one closer to your goal so don’t discount those. If you mess up, pick yourself back up and try again. Mistakes check your desire to really make a change.
Everybody talks about change like it’s a fantasy, like it’s this big race and that you have to compete to cross the finish line. Change is not a race, change does not come with haste. In fact change requires tenacity and grace. It requires you to be poised to travel a long and tiresome road. Change is going to test you. It’s going to make you second guess yourself. Change is going to make you want to quit, but it’s those moments that you have to resist. Those moments that you have to fight. Those moments that you have to push yourself with everything you have inside.
Change is not this fantasy that just falls from the sky. You don’t wake up one day and everything has changed. Change is a process that comes with constant work. Change is not a mystery, change is not a unicorn. It does exist. Furthermore, change is within your grasp. It’s right at your fingertips. You just have to be willing to travel the long road.
Change is possible, remember it’s one step at a time. I get nervous that people wait for a new day, a new month, a new year to go after the things they really want…because time is not a gift that’s promised to us. Life is like fashion, “one day you’re in, next day you’re out,”so don’t count on it being by your side. If there’s something you want to do, go out and do it NOW. Procrastination is the biggest thief of time. Believe me, I know. I’ve been robbed so many times…
When it comes to change, you don’t only need to celebrate the end result. You need to celebrate your efforts. Every little bit counts, so keep on walking because change comes one step at a time. Before you know it, you’ll be at the “finish line.”
Happy New Year, my friends!
I wish you all the best of life, of love, and lots of joyful laughter in 2017! May peace guide you and adorn your path!
